Fred and Minnie Eckhardt moved into the house in 1912. Fred was a well respected business man in town. He owned the general dry goods store. Fred was the justice of the peace, served on the school board, fire department church board, and helped build the Lutheran church. Two of their children sadly passed away in the home. Minnie passed away in the home in 1955 and her funeral was held in the living room. Fred passed away in the home in 1958. There has been evidence captured that suggests they are still here today.
The town of Boyd was established in 1884. The land was owned by the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad. Boyd became a big booming wild west town in the 1800-1900's. The town had a hardware, general and drug stores, restaurants, barber shop, banks and hotels. The edge of town was on the Sioux Dakota reservation line. The Boyd house was located on the edge of town across from the livery stable and was the first house to have plumbing . The town now has about 175 people and very little businesses' left.
Many people have had experiences at the Boyd house. Reports include audible voices and EVP's, shadows and apparition's, doors and cabinets opening, footsteps being heard, touching, objects being moved and paranormal equipment interaction.
